Small Bud vase on Lucy’s desk in LA apartment

In the LA based episode “Lucy Gets in Pictures” Lucy is seen using a small glass bud vase as a pencil holder. I see one or two just like it on eBay this week. Following is an example with a handy link to search results on ebay in case you missed it.

This is a small glass bud vase with cranberry color base and gold trim. The size of the vase is about 3 3/4″ tall with a 2″ top diameter and 1½” diameter base. The gold tends to be worn on the examples I’ve seen.

Pair of I Love Lucy style Stewart B McCulloch Asian Statues sold on eBay recently

Vintage Asian style pair of statues by STEWART B McCULLOCH

STEWART B McCULLOCH

I noticed this mid-century pair of 14″ Asian style figurines by Stewart B McCulloch on eBay recently. Unusually, they were listed separately by the same seller. Bidding started  at US$98.00 for each statue with a Buy Now option. The Winning bid for the female statue was US$121.50 and the male companion statue  sold for a Buy it Now of US$250.00., both were bought by the same seller.
The statues are the same as the pair seen on the mantelpiece on I Love Lucy, except for minor differences, the pair on the show were pink instead of yellow – which we know from pictures of the original – see earlier post – and some differences in the hand painted floral motif on the garment.

I Love Lucy Prop Picture seen on Yours Mine and Ours 1968

yoursmineours1
Here is an interesting find,  an I Love Lucy Desilu prop, seen as far back as the first season, spotted in the 1968 movie Yours, Mine and Ours, starring Lucille Ball,  more evidence that some of the  original ILL props were  reused in later productions.yoursmineours2 A closer detail shot tells us it is a match for one of a pair the Borghese oval fashion prints over the fireplace on I Love lucy

The picture on the right is a match!

Many thanks to John for a great contribution!

Pair of Cavalry Prints on I Love Lucy

Framed Cavalry Prints on I Love Lucy

In a previous post we looked at  small military prints in the livingroom on I Love Lucy. The pictures on the show are mid-century framed reproductios from an old book on broad sword exercises with some color added. The vintage framed prints are hard to find. However I found that the original book is archived online  so you could print out some to frame. Below is a scan of the page showing   pictures from the book like those seen above in the screen grab from the show.

A fragrance used by Lucille Ball

floridawater

A blog reader (who heard it directly from Lucie Arnaz) mentioned to me recently that Lucille Ball liked to use the fragrance Florida Water. Florida Water is a classic unisex cologne – also used as an aftershave – that dates back to 1808. It has a sweet orange fragrance with notes of lavender and clove. Vintage Stokely Van Camp’s Pork and Beans Tin Can 31 oz.

In I Love Lucy Season 2 Episode 19 – The Club  Ricky Ricardo eats from a  large can of Van Camp’s Pork & Beans. The brand name is covered over for the screen but the tin is recognizable.

From vancampsbeans.com: “Pork & Beans
America’s #1 Pork & Beans since 1909! Van Camp’s Pork & Beans traces its roots back to 1861 when Gilbert Van Camp and his wife Hester opened a family grocery store in Indianapolis, IN where they canned fruits and vegetables. Gilbert’s son, Frank, discovered that their Pork & Beans tasted even better when served hot in tomato sauce. He began to advertise the notion, and an American favorite was born. ”
