The above figurines are similar to a pair seen on the shelf above the beds in Lucy and Ricky’s bedroom. Click Here to see them on eBay
The eBay listing describes them as bookends, but I doubt they are heavy enough to be used as standard bookends. They are vintage Made in Japan imports from the I Love Lucy era.
Above we see a publicity picture of Lucille Ball at home in front of her fireplace, possibly at the Chatsworth ranch home.
At the ends of the mantel are a pair of bohemian glass pieces in the typical style seen on vases and mantel lusters. Crystal glass is coated usually with a white enamel and then a pattern is cut through to show the characteristic green or red glass underneath. Lucy’s pair look like vases, or mantel lusters without any hanging crystals. Here is an example of pieces in a similar style seen on eBay currently
In the I Love Lucy episode Lucy Does A TV Commercial (5 May 1952), the TV set Lucy climbs into to perform her Phillip Morris commercial is clearly a fake but it resembles the typical cabinet tv set of the early 50’s
This is a vintage RCA Victor 1953 Television Set that looks similar in style to the fake set – it is currently on eBay “Vintage RCA Victor 1953 television set, “the Jeffrey” Blond mahogany wood cabinet excellent condition no scratches Model Number 21-T-313″
Lucy’s kitchen had several salt and pepper shaker sets, usually they were on the large side up to 4″ or more which made them easier to spot on set. This time we are looking at a more average sized 3 piece plastic salt and pepper shaker set marked Superlon Product Chicago IL USA on the base of the holder. In the screen capture above they are next to the Plas-tex set we looked at previously.
Strictly speaking a prop is only a prop if the actor holds/uses it on stage or screen, other items that appear on set are called “set dressing”. Arguably, the most used props on I Love Lucy were the cigarette lighters. The Zippo Lady Bradford table lighter is one we see a lot of, usually it is placed on the coffee table as seen above.
I spotted this breadbox on Etsy – CLICK HERE to see it. It looks like the Nesco breadbox on I Love Lucy except the decal is different. See my earlier post about the breadbox I repainted to look like Lucy’s. Update:
The breadbox pictured above has been sold – here is another one still for sale:
