Another Margo Alexander Print

Margo Alexander Print over the fireplace

This time we are looking a pair of Margo Alexander prints that have each occupied a top center position over the fireplace in the Ricardo’s 2nd apartment on I Love Lucy. Other times we have seen them on the back wall on either side of a large landscape picture.

This Margo Alexander studio print is a new addition to the blog, it is a rural winter scene with people skating on a frozen river. The second picture indicated by the arrow below depicts a summer season and is one we looked at in a previous post : http://www.50slucy.com/margo-alexander-print-on-i-love-lucy.html

Here we see the other of the pair that has also been seen above the fireplace in the same position.

Hogan’s Heroes was a Desilu production so it would not be surprising to find a familiar prop. Above in a scene from Klink’s quarters is a familiar looking horse print as seen on I Love Lucy in the Ricardo’s apartment.

I Love Lucy props in Harper 1966 — Horse statue in the movie Harper 1966

The sceen cap above is from Harper (1966) a movie starring Paul Newman. Do you recognize this statue from the LA episodes of I Love Lucy? It looks like a horse and wagon statue that was seen near the entrance door of the Ricardo’s apartment when they go to Hollywood.

Below is another scene from the same movie with a banjo clock that reminds me of a similar one in the Ricardo’s NY apartment.

I Love Lucy Prop Picture seen on Yours Mine and Ours 1968

Here is an interesting find, an I Love Lucy Desilu prop, seen as far back as the first season, spotted in the 1968 movie Yours, Mine and Ours, starring Lucille Ball, more evidence that some of the original ILL props were reused in later productions. A closer detail shot tells us it is a match for one of a pair the Borghese oval fashion prints over the fireplace on I Love lucy

The picture on the right is a match!

Framed Cavalry Prints on I Love Lucy

In a previous post we looked at small military prints in the livingroom on I Love Lucy. The pictures on the show are mid-century framed reproductios from an old book on broad sword exercises with some color added. The vintage framed prints are hard to find. However I found that the original book is archived online so you could print out some to frame. Below is a scan of the page showing pictures from the book like those seen above in the screen grab from the show.

Thanks to comments by johndalessio on my Instagram who recognized re-use of Desilu props on The Andy Griffith Show, filmed at Desilu Studios, we have sightings of probable I Love Lucy items on some color episodes. Above from Season 6 is a Margo Alexander print we looked at on I Love Lucy in an earlier post.

In the episode “Oil Wells” (S3, 2/15/54) the Ricardos and the Mertzes fight over their shares of stock when they think they’ve been swindled. Soon after, Lucy spots Ethel in the hallway and asks for a five minute truce to discuss how they can get their money back. In the hallway is a framed print of a painting by Edgar Degas, “L’école de dance” (School of Ballet). We only get to see 3/4 of it, but here is what it looks like.

The Ricardo’s Framed Military Prints

Several small framed decorative prints can be seen on the living room walls of the I Love Lucy set. A set of cavalry sword men appear on the wall next to the fireplace and also on the back wall on either side of the larger Utrillo picture.

The original vintage print reproduction of a 1922 Maurice Utrillo lithograph is offered on eBay this week. I have only seen a few of these on offer since I started this blog so we may not see another like it for some time.
